Anti Ragging Committee

Anti -Ragging Committee is constituted in this college to prevent ragging and to take antiragging measures as per the guide lines issued by the Supreme Court of India & UGC under the Act of 1956, which is modified as UGC regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in higher Educational Institutions, 2009.

 

An Anti-Ragging Committee is formed to address the issues concerning ragging. The members of the committee are as follows:-

Objectives of Anti Ragging Cell

Anti-Ragging Committee will be the supervisory and advisory committee in preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the college Campus. The main objectives of this cell are as follows:

    • To aware the students of dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity.
    • To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging
    • as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence.
    • Promptly and stringently deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice.
    • To generate an atmosphere of discipline by sending a clear message that no act of ragging shall be tolerated and any act of ragging shall not go unnoticed and unpunished.

 

Functions of Committee

  • To consider the complaints received from the students and conduct enquiry and submit report to the Anti- Ragging Committee along with punishment recommended for the offenders;
  • Oversee the procedure of obtaining undertaking from the students in accordance with the provisions;
  • Conduct workshops against ragging menace and orient the students;
  • To provide students the information pertaining to contact address and telephone numbers of the person(s) identified to receive complaints/distress calls;
  • To create awareness among the students about Anti-ragging.
  • To take all necessary measures for prevention of Ragging inside the Campus/Hostels.

 

Regulations on curbing the menace of ragging:

  • The application form for admission/enrolment shall have a printed undertaking to be filled up and signed by the candidate that he/she is aware of the law regarding prohibition of ragging as well as the punishments and to the effect that he/she has not been expelled and/or debarred from admission by the institution and that he/she, if found guilty of the offence of ragging and/or abetting ragging, is liable to be punished appropriately.
  • The application form shall also contain a printed undertaking.
  • A student seeking admission to the hostel shall have to submit additional undertaking for hostel accommodation.
  • The institution shall identify, properly illuminate all vulnerable
  • Every fresh student admitted to the institution shall be given a printed leaflet detailing when and to whom he/she has to turn to for help and guidance for various purposes with addresses and telephone numbers
  • To send a letter to the parents/guardians of the students who are completing the first year informing them about the law regarding ragging and the punishments and appealing to them to impress upon their wards to desist from indulging in ragging when they come back at the beginning of the next academic session.
  • To keep spy in every class

 

Punishments imposed for those found guilty of ragging:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examinations or other evaluation process.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international Tournament, youth festival etc.
  • Suspension/expulsion from the hostel
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.
  • Collective punishment: when the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment.

 

Relevance

Cell gives the students a safe and confidential platform to express their complaints regarding ragging. It aims to build a ragging free environment by instilling the principles of democratic values, tolerance, empathy, compassion and sensitivity to that students become responsible citizens and create an atmosphere of discipline by passing a clear message that no act of ragging in college premises.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • To create the awareness about Anti Ragging act and punishments among the students and the appropriate law in force.
  • To create the awareness about Ragging constitutes (AICTE/UGC Regulation as per the directive of the Supreme Court Ragging CLAUSE 3).
  • To prohibit, prevent and eliminate the source of ragging including any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • To prohibit undisciplined activities by any student or students this causes or is likely to cause hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear in any fresher.
  • To conduct surprise checks in campus, classrooms, laboratories, canteen, hostel, playground and buses etc.
  • To ensure that no one indulges in ragging of junior students.
  • To report any ragging related issues found during surprise checks to the anti-ragging committee.
